100 Years of Kobor: A Grand Tribute to Jasim Uddin in Chandpur

Chandpur Correspondent : The centenary of the timeless poem Kobor by the folk poet Jasim Uddin was celebrated in Chandpur by Charjapad Sahitya Academy and Youth Forum Bangladesh. The event took place on Saturday (23 August) at the Rotary Building in Chandpur. The program was inaugurated by Chandpur Press Club President Rahim Badsha. In his speech, he said, “There is no nation in the world as family-oriented and affectionate as the people of Bangladesh. A remarkable example of this is reflected in Jasim Uddin’s poem Kobor.”

The program was presided over by Youth Forum Bangladesh Coordinator, Rotarian Advocate Aleya Begum Laki, while the session was conducted by Advocate Rafiquzzaman Roni, Director General of Charjapad Academy.

As the chief guest, poet Jamshed Wazed, editor of Jolchhobi, remarked, “It is unjust to confine Jasim Uddin merely to the title of folk poet. He is truly one of the greatest poets of the Bengali language.”

In her welcome address, Charjapad Academy President Ayesha Akter Rupa spoke to the audience. Special guests included Dr. Maa Aaa Muqtadir, General Secretary of the Language Movement Memorial Preservation Council, and Sohel Md. Fakhruddin, President of the Bangladesh Historical Research Council.

Greetings were also delivered by Professor Dulal Chandra Das, former president of Udichi Shilpigoshthi Chandpur District Committee; Shiuli Majumdar, Vice President of Charjapad Academy; Asadullah Kahaf, Chairman of the Control Council; Ferrari Prince, Assistant Director; Jayanti Bhowmik, Associate Director; Irin Sultana Lima, Executive Director; Russell Ibrahim, Director of Science & ICT; Mahmuda Khanam, Principal of Railway Kindergarten; Faisal Farazi, District Scouts Secretary; Omar Bin Yusuf Chowdhury, Advisor and Focal Person of the Red Crescent; Mohammad Shah Alam, Member Secretary of the Implementation Council; Rotarian Shaheen Akter; entrepreneur Sayra Kakoli; and writers Rabindra Majumdar and Muddasir.

Presiding over the event, Aleya Begum Laki informed the audience that before arranging the celebration, they had visited the birthplace of the poet and places associated with his memory.

The cultural segment included recitations by Mizanur Rahman Swapan, Sakib Khan, Dipanwita Das, Mohammad Shahjalal Miaji Abed, Abdur Rahim, Prarthi, and Srabonti Das. Musical performances were presented by guitarist Dilip Ghosh and flutist Belal Sheikh, while dance was performed by artists of Nrityadhara.

At the event, 15 individuals were honored with commemorative crests. Before the main program, a colorful rally was brought out in the city.
