Senior leaders of the Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Industry Association held a high-level meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday evening to discuss pressing challenges facing the country’s pharmaceutical sector.
The meeting took place at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan at 8:00pm on Thursday, August 7.
Representing the Pharmaceutical Industry Association were Abdul Muktadir, current president of the association and Chairman and Managing Director of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Limited, along with Dr Md Zakir Hossain, Secretary General of the association and Managing Director of Delta Pharma Limited. They were accompanied by a five-member delegation from the industry.
Also present were Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, BNP Standing Committee member, and Mizanur Rahman Sinha, former State Minister and Chairman of Acme Pharmaceuticals.
According to sources familiar with the discussion, the meeting focused on the current challenges confronting Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry, including regulatory hurdles, policy inconsistencies, export opportunities, and the sector’s broader contribution to the national economy.
Participants underscored the importance of a stable, science-based policy environment to support innovation, ensure drug safety, and enhance global competitiveness – particularly in key export markets.
The industry leaders also highlighted the need for government support to overcome barriers to international expansion and to maintain the industry’s reputation for quality and affordability.
The BNP leadership reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with key economic sectors and pledged to advocate for policies that promote sustainable growth, self-reliance, and equitable healthcare access.
